<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Why Is Empathy Toward Others So Important?</strong>&nbsp;</h4>



<p>As social beings, we engage in interactions that significantly shape our lives. The ability to respond empathetically allows us to approach relationships with greater openness and attentiveness, reducing the risk of projecting our own struggles onto others. <h4 class="wp-block-heading">The European Commission has announced a major step toward greater child safety – the European Parliament and the Council have reached a preliminary agreement on new toy safety regulations.</h4>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Why is this important?</strong> <br>Because these changes will have a real impact on what ends up in children’s hands – whether the toy comes from a factory in the EU or was ordered online from another continent.</h4>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>What’s changing?</strong></h2>



<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>End of hazardous substances</strong><br>The new rules ban the use of harmful chemicals in toys, such as PFAS (so-called “forever chemicals”), bisphenols, and endocrine disruptors. This is a huge leap forward for children’s health and safety.</li>



<li><strong>Digital product passport</strong><br>Every toy will be required to have its own digital &#8220;ID&#8221; – for example, in the form of a QR code. This will make it easy for consumers and customs authorities to check where the product comes from, whether it meets standards, and what its specifications are.</li>



<li><strong>Stronger enforcement – including online</strong><br>The new regulations strengthen oversight of online trade. Inspectors will have more tools to remove dangerous products from the market, and companies outside the EU will have to comply with the same standards as European manufacturers.</li>
</ol>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>What’s next?</strong></h2>



<p>The agreement still awaits formal approval by the European Parliament and the Council. The new rules will come into effect 20 days after publication, with a transition period for manufacturers and inspection authorities.</p>



<p>This is a key step toward better protection for children and a more level playing field in the market. Because safety shouldn’t depend on where we buy toys – they should all meet the same high standards.</p>

<p><strong>The European Union has announced a new program – Union of Skills. Its goal is to support Europeans in developing key skills and adapting to the evolving job market. With the growing demand for new competencies and increasing challenges for employers, the EU is investing in education, training, and talent mobility. <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>What Challenges Does Poland Face?</strong></h2>



<p>The European labor market is undergoing dynamic changes, driven by technological advancements and the green transition. As a result, more industries require specialists with new skill sets. Like other EU countries, Poland faces challenges in education and aligning workforce competencies with economic needs.</p>

<p>Union of Skills is a program designed to support education, training, and workforce mobility across Europe. Its key objectives include:</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>New EU Goals for 2030</strong></h2>



<p>The European Union is not only investing in education but also setting specific targets for 2030 to improve the quality of learning and increase the number of specialists in key fields. The main objectives include:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>reducing the percentage of students struggling with reading, mathematics, science, and digital skills to below 15%,</li>



<li>increasing the number of top-performing students in these fields to at least 15%,</li>



<li>raising the share of vocational education students choosing STEM fields to at least 45%, with at least 25% being women,</li>



<li>increasing the proportion of students in higher education enrolled in STEM fields to at least 32%, with 40% being women,</li>



<li>boosting the number of PhD candidates specializing in information and communication technologies (ICT) to at least 5%, with 1 in 3 being women.</li>
</ul>



<p>Through these measures, the EU aims to build a more competitive economy and provide Europeans with better career development opportunities.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Over €150 Billion for Skills Development</strong></h2>



<p>To achieve these goals, the European Union is investing over €150 billion in education and vocational training between 2021 and 2027. These funds will be allocated to training programs, educational initiatives, and support systems that help people develop their skills. Through Union of Skills, people of all ages – from students to experienced professionals – will gain better access to training and opportunities to enhance their qualifications. This initiative also presents an opportunity for businesses, which will benefit from a more skilled workforce.</p>

<p><strong>In a world full of diversity and social challenges, empathy is becoming one of the most important values. In the series “Empathy as the Key to Change,” we will take a closer look at how empathy shapes our personal and professional lives, as well as its impact on society and business.</strong></p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Let’s start with the basics – what exactly is empathy?</strong></h3>



<p>Empathy is the ability to step into someone else’s experience, to feel their emotions, and to see the world from their perspective. Unlike sympathy, which implies a certain distance, empathy requires us to symbolically step into another person’s shoes. However, this doesn’t mean losing our own identity—we remain ourselves while opening up to someone else’s reality. This allows us not only to better understand others but also to respond more effectively to their needs, ultimately contributing to real change.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Five Elements of Empathy</strong></h3>



<p>Empathy is not a single trait—it consists of five key elements that help us develop it in a complete way:</p>



<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Cognitive empathy</strong> – The ability to understand another person’s thoughts, beliefs, and what drives their actions.</li>



<li><strong>Affective empathy</strong> – The ability to feel what another person is feeling, whether it’s joy, sadness, or frustration.</li>



<li><strong>Compassionate empathy</strong> – Going a step further—acting upon our understanding and emotions to offer real support.</li>



<li><strong>Self-other differentiation</strong> – Maintaining a healthy balance by recognizing that another person’s emotions belong to <em>them</em>, not to <em>us</em>. This allows us to offer support without taking on their emotional burden.</li>



<li><strong>Empathy without projection</strong> – True empathy means setting aside our own experiences so we can see the world through another person’s eyes, rather than through our own perspective.</li>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Why is it worth practicing empathy?</strong></h3>



<p>Empathy is not just a personal value—it’s a driving force for social change. Today’s business world increasingly recognizes its role in building strong teams, fostering inclusive workplace cultures, and strengthening relationships with customers and local communities.</p>



<p>History is full of examples of how empathy has driven transformation. Harriet Beecher Stowe, moved by the suffering of enslaved people, wrote <em>Uncle Tom’s Cabin</em>, a book that sparked a powerful social movement against slavery in the 19th century. In today’s world, empathy fuels innovation in corporate responsibility, driving positive changes in workplaces and society.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/human-fraternity">The International Day of Human Fraternity</a> was established by the UN General Assembly in 2020 to promote understanding and solidarity among people of different cultures and religions. This day is part of the broader initiative of <a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/interfaith-harmony-week">the World Interfaith Harmony Week</a> (February 1–7), which highlights the significance of interfaith dialogue and cooperation for peace.
