World Breastfeeding Week – August 1-7
World Breastfeeding Week, initiated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), is celebrated annually from August 1 to 7 in remembrance of the Innocenti Declaration, developed and adopted by participants of the 1990 WHO/UNICEF meeting. The declaration was signed by 29 countries, including Poland. The campaign started in 1992 and it is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since 2016. Currently, World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated in over 120 countries. This year’s theme, “Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All,” focuses on survival, health, and well-being, highlighting the need to improve breastfeeding support to reduce societal inequalities, especially during emergencies and crises.

International Cat Day – August 8
International Cat Day was initiated by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) in 2002 to emphasize the importance of cat protection and care. Although many countries have established their own cat celebration days, such as Poland, which celebrates on February 17, the official international date is August 8. This day is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about responsible adoption and mindful care of cats. Celebrating this day inspires reflection on our responsibilities towards animals, ultimately building a more aware and empathetic society. Encourage your employees to share photos of their feline friends and join in celebrating this special day!

International Youth Day – August 12
International Youth Day was established by the UN in 1999 to highlight the importance of youth and promote their active participation in public life. The 2024 theme, “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” draws attention to the role of digitalization in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the digital transformation era, mobile devices, digital platforms, and AI play a crucial role in supporting at least 70% of the SDGs. Young people lead technological innovations, and their contribution is essential for sustainable development. We encourage promoting internal initiatives that support youth skill development.

Women’s Equality Day – August 26
Women’s Equality Day, celebrated on August 26, commemorates the passing of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which granted women the right to vote. This event was the culmination of a long struggle by suffragists. It is a day that reminds us of the necessity of striving for gender equality and fighting for women’s rights worldwide. Although this holiday is celebrated in the United States, the determination and achievements of women should be celebrated globally. Women’s Equality Day is an excellent opportunity to highlight the importance of gender equality and promote all initiatives supporting women.

International Dog Day – August 26
International Dog Day, celebrated annually on August 26, focuses on the needs of our four-legged friends and the significant role they play in our lives. This holiday aims to honor all dogs, regardless of their appearance, size, age, or breed, and to draw attention to dogs currently needing a home and human love. Consider organizing employee volunteering to support local shelters or creating a space where employees can share stories about their pets. Celebrating International Dog Day not only helps animals in need but also strengthens team bonds.
